At a Glance

To scale climate interventions globally and nationally, Africa’s youth— ~60% of whom are under 25—must be empowered as key drivers of change, adapting solutions to local contexts.

National Climate Change Action Plans provide the legislative frameworks for these efforts. Most African countries have set their NDCs and developed strategies, roadmaps, and adaptation plans.

In many African countries, rural populations outnumber urban ones, highlighting the need for targeted adaptation strategies. Currently, ~43% of Africa’s population lives in rural areas.

A community-first approach fosters ownership, creates jobs, and complements government and development efforts, underscoring the need for more partnerships to tackle employment challenges.

Makueni County Partnership

Makueni County Partnership

JLA is working with Government of Makueni County to empower their youth with skills and knowledge for agribusiness projects.

The theory of change leading to action considers that if we mentor, coach, and equip youth with business and technical skills, and facilitate linkages with private companies, and international companies, then decent employment and decent income earning opportunities will be created for the youth in Makueni.
